ALPINE 92 Transportable Homes

The ‘Alpine’ has been designed to comply with the Hanmer Springs building design guide. This home features combination plywood exterior with vertical battens. Vertical style aluminium casement windows, French doors to the living and master bedroom, decorative gable vents compliment the 25° gable roof.

The large open plan kitchen / dining / lounge provides plenty of space for the family and friends. The design includes provision for an approved wood burner to be installed and connected to a dual HWC.

TASMAN 88 Transportable Home

This architecturally styled three bedroom home features include James Hardiflex and Linea battens with coloursteel corrugate panels below the windows. The 19° pitch roof with both 450mm soffit and gable overhang make this home an attractive choice.

The kitchen protrudes out into the soffit which provides additional space to the living area. The deck is an optional extra to this home.

EXPLORER 87 Transportable Home

The Explorer home incorporates many innovative design features including Hyne I beam floor joists and ply floor to reduce squeaky flooring and a raked ceiling to the living room. James Hardie Linea weatherboard and corrugate cladding enhance the exterior appearance.

This three bedroom home has a large open plan living area with bedrooms to either side. A shared access bathroom through the WIR and laundry will be a popular choice. This home features grooved style doors with quality hardware.

VISION 84 Transportable Home

The Vision features large windows to the front of the house to maximise the views you have chosen your site for. With many different cladding options and its mono pitch roof, ‘The Vision’ blends nicely into the South Island’s mountain or seaside environment.

This three bedroom home has a large open plan living area with bedrooms and bathroom to either side. The front two bedrooms feature ranch sliders. The main living area features a simple yet very well equipped kitchen along the back wall and an island bench incorporating the sink.

The Department of Building and Housing Starter Home Design Competition winning entry by Stephen Smith of S3 Architects Limited was today opened for public viewing.

Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson opened The Simple House in Preston Road, Otara. The Simple House will be open for public viewing for two weeks before being returned to Housing New Zealand.

The Simple House Acceptable Solution

The house design competition was designed to promote The Simple House Acceptable Solution and demonstrate what can be achieved within the criteria of the acceptable solution.

The Simple House Acceptable Solution is design guide for single storey homes using limited roof spans and a limited range of cladding materials to promote simplicity using proven methods of construction to help make new homes more affordable for first home buyers.

The key criteria for home design:

  • Maximum of 120 square metres of habitable floor area
  • Maximum cost of $1,400 per square metre
  • Structural strength and durability for the majority of locations in New Zealand
  • Finishes that reflected the requirements for durability and low maintenance
  • Designs that allowed for changing family needs over time through adaptability and the incorporation of lifetime features such as wide doorways and easy access
  • Designs incorporating energy efficiency, water efficiency, material efficiency, and waste minimisation, and low ongoing operational costs
